Ash Behshid

Ashlyne “Ash” Behshid (b. 2000) is an Iranian-American artist, director, producer, and curator based in Los Angeles, CA. Working across painting, sculpture, installation, music, and film, Behshid creates dynamic, alien works that challenge traditional artistic boundaries.

His practice is rooted in hybridity, merging painting and sculpture through shaped canvases and unconventional techniques that expand the visual language of both mediums. Influenced by his personal history, Behshid draws from his father’s escape from Iran in the 1980s, using acts of creation to examine the complexities of American “freedom.” His work also explores language as an alien force—growing up, he experienced his native tongue, Farsi, as both familiar and estranged. That same sensation manifests in his mark-making, constructing a visual dialect that feels simultaneously intimate and foreign.

In addition to his studio art, Behshid directs, produces, and scores films, & music videos crafting narratives that blend comedy, sci-fi, surrealism, and satire. His multidisciplinary approach reflects a passion for storytelling in all its forms, transforming ideas into immersive experiences that engage and provoke audiences.
